Privacy notice
Garage List is a free directory run by RJP Group Ltd (company no. 5937783, registered office 124 City Road, London EC1V 2NX). We are the controller of the personal data described here. Last updated 19 October 2026. Contact: hello@garagelist.co.uk.
If you're a driver looking for a garage
- Visiting the site. We count visits with our own simple counter: the page, which site sent you, whether you're on a phone or computer, your country, and what you searched for. We don't use cookies for this, we don't store your IP address and we don't use advertising trackers. A full postcode you search for is stored as the first half only (for example OX9). Our legal basis is legitimate interests: knowing what people need so we can improve the directory.
- Your shortlist is kept in your own browser. It isn't sent to us.
- Asking garages a question. If you use "Message garages", we ask for your email, your message and any optional details (name, mobile, registration, car, postcode). We email you a code to confirm it's you, then send your message to the garages you chose so they can reply to you directly. We keep the enquiry so we can deal with problems and misuse. Garages who receive it will use your details to answer you, under their own privacy notices.
- Google. Ratings, opening hours and reviews on garage pages are fetched live from Google Maps when you open the page. Google receives your request as it would when you use any Google service.
- MOT and tyre reminders. If you ask for reminders (on Garage List's MOT check page or on Right Pressure), we keep your email address, the vehicle's registration, your postcode and, if you give them, your tyre pressures, and we email you only what you asked for: your MOT a month and a week before it's due, and, if you choose, a monthly tyre-pressure check. We confirm your email address first and send nothing until you do. To show you an MOT date, and to keep it up to date, we send the registration to DVSA's MOT history service through a lookup run by RJP Group Ltd; looking up a date doesn't need your name or email. We use your postcode to point you to MOT centres near you. Reminder emails include a "Stop these reminders" link, and you can ask for a stop link if you no longer have one. Our legal basis is your consent. We keep your details while the reminders are on. If you stop, we keep a record that you stopped, so we don't email you again, for 12 months and then delete it; a sign-up you never confirm is deleted after 30 days. Garage List treats every driver the same: we don't check whether a garage already contacts you about your car, and a garage's customer list plays no part in who gets our emails.
- Featured garages in reminders. A reminder email may include a box labelled "Featured garage": the nearest garage within 10 miles that uses Garage Page, our online booking service (run by the same company). We pick it using your postcode only, we don't tell that garage who you are, and featuring doesn't change the order of garages on Garage List.
- Links to Amazon. Some guides link to Amazon.co.uk. As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases, at no extra cost to you. Amazon sets its own cookies when you visit it, under its own notice. We only see that a link was clicked, not who clicked it.
If you run or work at a garage
- Your listing. Garage details come from public sources: the DVSA register of MOT test stations, OpenStreetMap contributors, Overture Maps Foundation open data, and the garage's own website. They are business details, shown under our legitimate interest in helping drivers find garages. You can claim a listing to correct it, or ask us to correct or remove it at any time.
- Contact emails. Where a garage's own website shows a business email address, we may use it to pass on an enquiry from a driver. Each such email says who we are, why we're writing and how to opt out or have the listing removed, and we stop at once if you ask. We don't print these addresses on garage pages.
- Claiming or adding a garage. We ask for your name, phone number, email and role so we can confirm you're entitled to manage the listing. We send a code by text, call or email (using Twilio and Resend). We keep a record of the claim and when it was made.
- Marketing. If you tick the optional box when you claim or add a garage, we may email you news, tips and offers about Garage List and Garage Page (run by the same company). We record when you ticked it and the wording you saw. You can untick at any time by replying to any email or writing to us, and it won't affect your listing.
