How Garage List works
A plain directory of garages, MOT centres and tyre centres, so you can find one that does what you need and call them yourself.
What we stand for
- Free for drivers, free for garages. Searching, shortlisting and messaging a garage cost nothing, and every garage gets a free listing.
- No booking fees, no commission. Garage List takes nothing from a booking, a quote or an enquiry.
- We send you to the garage, not between you. You deal with the garage directly and the garage keeps its customer. We don't resell enquiries.
- A fixed order that money can't change. Results go by how well a garage matches what you asked for (a service we can confirm before one we can't), then by distance. A garage never moves up because it pays us or uses Garage Page. Any other order, such as by Google rating, is something you choose, never something we apply. A Featured mark is a disclosed benefit for Garage Page customers (Garage Page is a service from the same company) and has no effect on position.
- Facts before claims. We only state that a garage does something when the DVSA register, the garage itself or OpenStreetMap backs it up. Otherwise we say so.
- Your details stay yours. We don't sell personal data and we run no adverts or tracking cookies of our own. Our privacy notice says exactly what we keep.
- Honest about money. Some guides link to products on Amazon. If you buy through one we may earn a small commission, which has no effect on which garages we list or how we order them.
Garage List is run by RJP Group Ltd, which also makes Garage Page. Questions or complaints: contact us.
Where the list comes from
Every MOT centre is an active test station on the DVSA register, which DVSA publishes every three months. The register gives each station's name, address, phone number and the classes of vehicle it is approved to test. We last checked it on 1 November 2026.
Ratings, reviews and opening hours on a garage's page come live from Google Maps when you open it. We don't keep copies of them.
Who is listed
Independent garages, specialists, tyre centres and the national fast-fit and tyre chains (marked as chains). We leave out franchised main dealers, council and fleet workshops, and bus and coach depots. Some names need a person to decide, so a garage can take a little while to appear.
MOT centres come from the DVSA register. Garages that don't do MOTs, and many tyre centres, come from OpenStreetMap (© OpenStreetMap contributors, ODbL) or are added by the garage itself. We also use open place data from the Overture Maps Foundation (CDLA Permissive 2.0) to match businesses to their websites and contact details.
What "confirmed" means
We only state a service as fact when we can back it up: MOT from the DVSA register, or any service the garage has confirmed itself or that is recorded in OpenStreetMap. Anything else, like servicing at an MOT centre or tyres at a garage with "tyres" in its name, is shown as call to check.
For MOTs you can filter by what a garage is approved to test:
- Cars (class 4) — tests cars
- Vans (class 7) — tests vans up to 3.5t
- Minibuses (class 5) — tests minibuses (13+ passenger seats)
- Motorcycles (classes 1–2) — tests motorcycles
- Three-wheelers (class 3) — tests three-wheelers
How garages are ordered
First the garages that match what you asked for (a service we can confirm comes before one we can only infer), then nearest first. Garages can't pay to be listed higher. Garages that use Garage Page, a service from the same company, take online bookings. They get a yellow outline, a Featured mark and a Book online button. That is the only thing a garage gets from being a Garage Page customer: it never changes where a garage appears.
Corrections and removal
If a detail is wrong, or you run a listed garage and want it taken off, tell us here. Details come from DVSA's register, so it's worth telling DVSA too.
